Locations of Aeinia

The Eastlands are a loose confederation of city-states on the continent known as the Eastern Pinnacle who prize their independence and individual identities above all. Each kingdom maintains its own laws, trade agreements, and culture, and each is fairly isolated geographically from the other city-states by the Middlewood and other natural borders. Most kingdoms are composed of a balance of different races, such as the port city of Talispun, but there are a handful that are based in the historical culture of one particular race, such as the elven capitol of Farsidan.

While individual biases exist, by far the concern of most Eastlanders is how trustworthy their neighbors are. One unifying factor that does unite the different kingdoms is a common cultural memory of the Jeshinese occupation. Even the youngest child of the Eastlands can relate stories of the colonization efforts and oppression of the western invaders. The Eastlands was affected most dramatically by the Shattering Era and the Imperial Wars, and the modern day city-states are built, often quite literally, upon the ruins of their ancestors’ decimated civilizations. While many kingdoms have recovered, there are placed where the land is covered by ruins, a constant reminder of the past.

The Jeshir Empire is the absolute ruling power of the continent known as the Western Pinnacle. The empire achieved this through a series of genocidal wars against the fey and dwarven races and by consolidating control over magic. Today, sovereignty within the empire is divided between the draken (dragonborn/half-dragon) noblility, who serve as samurai and ministers of various government cabinets, and the Enforcers, the deadly sorcerers who hunt down anyone showing signs of innate magic and conscripting them into the military.

The Jeshir Empire is a decadent, ancient culture, steeped in tradition and dominated by a rigid caste system and the machinations of powerful dragons. In exchange for their aid in driving the elves, dwarves, and other fey across the sea, the beastfolk allies of the draken were granted status as the ruling caste in their own cities. While the draken are of the ruling caste in all cities, there are kingdoms of noble orcs, goblins, gnolls, serpent men (yuan-ti/lizardfolk), and birdfolk (kenku/aaracockra). Only nobles may practice wizardry, and there is a constant jockeying for power between the Enforcers and the noble families. However, ultimate final authority rests in the hands of the emperor of Jeshir, who is rumored to be an ancient golden dragon.
