Dogma: “What will be, will be, and knowing how to face the inevitable is what puts one in control of their own destiny. Learn to recognize the wheels of destiny in motion, to discern what cannot be prevented from your sphere of influence. Only within the truth of this realization can you begin to shape your own destiny. Let fools stand before the tide. True worshippers of fate will learn to swim below the waves.
“Luck and chance are vital elements of life to be cherished. Exult in the variances of fortune and give the gods the opportunity to guide and direct your path in such ways. In each change and reversal of fortune there is a lesson and an opportunity. No mortal is slave to chance save for the one who refuses to take advantage of it. Laugh in the face of weal and woe alike, determined to make the most of whatever your luck presents you. Never fear to let go of that which will serve you better in the hands of another.
“Truth is as precious as gold, but not all truth is meant to be known at all times. Conceal what is better left concealed to protect and preserve others. Practice the arts of deception and thievery in play, so that when you have dire need of such skills, they may be employed artfully as a trade. It is no sin to deceive the wicked and no crime to steal from a thief. Revel in the shadowy arts, for arts they are, but have a care for whom you make victim in your games, for justice pursues those who harm the innocent.”

History: As the God of Fate, Morthios is venerated by all those mortals across Aeinia who seek to change their futures, and thus, he wields tremendous power in the mortal world, but the Lord of Fate has held greater power still in the pantheon of Outer Gods. When first he crossed the Reality Barriers into Aeinia, Morthios also held dominion over Death and Time, forces intrinsically tied to fate. However, when Na-lok declared war on his pantheon for their refusal to grant him greater influence in the new world, Morthios surrendered dominion over death to heal the rift among the Outer Gods. Similarly, when the Elder Elemental God returned to the world he helped create, Morthios also relinquished his claim over Time to forestall any divine conflict the Outer Gods could ill afford.
It would be easy to assume that Morthios has sacrificed his power and position, but the Lord of Masks plays a long game, and relinquishing titles has allowed him to take on a younger, more youthful incarnation. Stepping down as Father Time has allowed the god to take on dominion of Deception and Thievery, which in turn allow him to manipulate the fate of Aeinia in ways unseen. It is said that Morthios laughed when he laid down the burden of Time and Death, for such was part of his plan all along. The Rogue’s new incarnation is the dashing young rogue, appearing in strange places and manipulating events of seemingly little importance. His most recent exploit involved stealing an artifact from the demonic Lord of Oozes, whose fetid pools of slime the God of Thieves polluted with a reagent that caused them all to thicken to the consistency of stone, laughing joyfully as he escaped.
Despite his new, youthful incarnation, Morthios remains the husband to his beloved Fin-hefara and retains his place as the Patriarch of the Heavens and the Father of the Outer Gods. Morthios is an ancient power, having been born at the dawn of time when time itself was born. He has the patience to wait and watch for the perfect moment before acting, but he also has the decisiveness to act swiftly when chance presents the greatest opportunity. Morthios and Fin-hefara have already guided one world to its ultimate destiny, and they carefully plan and work together to carry out their divine mission for Aeinia with great passion and fervor. To the Divine Marriage, as their faithful refer to them, this great work is their joy and a vital element of their passion for each other. Although Sin-del holds power over love in all its form, the Wolf Mother and the Rogue hold informal dominion over marriage.
The Clergy of the Church of Fate: The Church of Fate is broken up into two distinct orders, one which operates in the open, and one which operates in complete secrecy:
Fate Finders: The Fate Finders are the clerics of Morthios’s temples. They spend their time consulting with those who struggle against their future and providing the means for others to change their circumstances or guide them to those who can help in such endeavors. It is just as common to find a Fate Finders assisting someone to find an apprenticeship in a trade as it is to find them rushing to rescue a noble lady from assassination. To that end, the priests practice a wide variety of divinations and Fate Finders perform divinations, heal the sick, work professions in order to provide funds to influence the lives of others, and follow signs towards their destinies at the drop of a hat. They are indoctrinated to be dedicated entirely towards following chance as it comes to them. It is not uncommon to find them leaving everything behind in order to chase after a cause with nothing but the clothes on their back. Although they are expected to maintain contact with the temple where they serve, such hasty departures are expected. Fate Finders believe that they live their lives at the whims of Fate, so that others may find their own destinies.

Gray Cloaks: The Gray Cloaks are a secret society who serve Morthios behind the scenes. They call him by the name “Haze” and revere his dominion over deception and thievery. Indeed Haze may or may not be an exarch or an aspect of Morthios, but the priests do not care in the slightest. They feel his concealing hand guiding their shadowy work and granting them powers, which means he is there. Skilled in the arts of illusion and invisibility, the Gray Cloaks work to influence events without being detected. Both on and off the battlefield, Gray Cloaks consider an endeavor most successful when they have been able to affect events anonymously, and they will engage in elaborate ruses and disguises in order to do so. Gray Cloaks are as welcome in the temples of Morthios as Fate Finders, but they wear masks when they do so to conceal their identities, even from one another. Whether wearing a magical disguise or assuming an identity in a community for years in order to conceal their influence, Gray Cloaks are always said to be wearing a mask of one sort or another. Gray Cloaks believe that they spend their lives serving in secret, so that others may live better in the open.
