Dogma: “Virtue comes through a single, intentional thought. All magic begins as thought, and all thought contains power. Every action is first conceived in the mind, and the most powerful minds can shape reality itself. Train your mind to be as strong as your body, stronger still for the body is subject to the mind. Learn and relearn, experiment, read and observe. Share your thoughts and your learning, so that the Light of Reason may be shared by all.

“Let the Light of Reason rule your life and your Art, and your power will grow twofold. Reason weaves the strongest magics, divides deception asunder, and opens the way to the Light. The Light of Reason may still shine when all others have fallen to chaos and darkness. Allow your passions to be forged on the anvil of wisdom, for few paths bode ill that are shaped before a single step is taken.

“The Mystic Arts are the greatest tool given to the world. There are as many ways to wield magic as stars in the sky, but not all magic is born of the light. Learn magic that creates, protects, ennobles, enlarges, enlightens, and illuminates. Find the path to magic which suits you best and work diligently to master that path, and in time, another path will open itself unto you. The greatest power lies in not one path to the Mystic Arts, but in all of them.”

History: Vhara’s genesis was an intentional act by the God-King of Magic, an entity who was neither god nor primordial, but perhaps something of both. Wishing to foster new magical traditions, the God-King sired two divine daughters. The first was begat from a powerful sentinel matron of the Plane of Radiance, and the second was begat from a dark lord of the Shadowfell. The first daughter, Vhara, was drawn to the light by her very nature and showed her sire’s affinity for magic. Fascinated by the way magic could capture and refract the radiance of her mother’s home world, the elder daughter discovered the secrets of gem magic and perfected the art of capturing and magnifying powerful enchantments inside of crystalline structures. Delighted that his daughter had fulfilled the purposes of her creation, the God-King showered her in glory and named her heir to his crown.

The second sister, Vauna, was drawn to the darkness that was her birthright and delighted only in the blackest sorceries and rituals. Jealous of her sister’s inheritance, Vauna conjured forth a dangerous magic with a will of its own. This dark spell eventually consumed the God-King’s realm, leaving it a forbidden shadowy reflection of its former glory, and all three gods were forced to flee across the Astral Sea. Vauna fled in disgrace, disinherited by her father, and Vhara remained at his side, inheriting his divine crown on two consecutive worlds.

Vhara shares divine dominion over the magic of Aeinia along with several other deities. With the return of Titania, the principal deity of magic, the God-King stepped down, but as Titania favors the innate magic granted to sorcerers, Vhara again accepted her father’s place to serve as the patroness of wizards and spellcraft. Vhara is eager to fulfill her duties and works diligently to bring order to magic and help the world heal from the disasters that magic has wrought. She is opposed in this mission by her dark sister, and Vhara is ready to engage her head on. For the first time since their creation, Vhara and Vauna are free to face one another as equals with no interference from their sire, and the Queen of the Twin powers is currently contemplating her course. While she has accepted that she will likely be forced to imprison or defeat her unrepentant sister, Vhara is cautious. Titania has not made clear her intent and if the Elder God proves hostile, Vhara may have no choice but to side with her sister for survival.

Vhara is allied to all the Outer Gods who immigrated to Aeinia to save it from destruction, but she has a special relationship with the Goddess Hemeena, for both deities share an interest in bringing light and wisdom to the world. In some stories, Hemeena is portrayed as Vhara’s aunt or at least an older, wiser deity guiding the younger goddess as she gains in prominence and power. Hemeena witnessed the Mystic Lady’s ascension from demipower to greater goddess with approval and considers her integral to the Outer Gods’ success on the world of Aeinia. Vhara is respected among her pantheon for her keen logical nature as well as her commitment to her divine duties.

The Clergy of the Church of Reason: In the last decade, the Church of Reason has worked very hard to establish its presence across the city states of the Eastlands, particularly in Manor Eiden, the City of Spells, where wizardry is a way of life. The clergy of Vhara work diligently to bring logic and reason to the communities in which they serve, using the sciences to better the lives of everyone they encounter. Vharans work as scribes, scholars, teachers, advisors, sages, engineers, and protectors. It is the duty of the Church of Reason to seek out and train practitioners of magic and psionics, encouraging the growth of the Twin Powers, as the church calls them, amongst all those responsible enough to wield the arts with wisdom. As the guardians of beneficent uses of magic, the church also works with governments and local authorities to make sure that magic never become a danger to others and to bring to justice those who besmirch magic’s good name.
