The Adari Republic is the seat of knighthood and chivalry within the Eastlands as well as the center of the largest church in the Eastlands, the Church of Healing, the faith of the Goddess of Healing and Protection, Bes-tera. The Adari Republic’s tradition of knighthood is not only a deeply ingrained part of the nation’s identity but also an important part of the Eastland’s history. The republic’s knightly orders served as the most important military force during the First and Second Imperial Wars when the people of the Eastlands forced their Jeshinese oppressors out of power and back to their own shores. Along with Manor Eiden’s wizard-led armies, the Adari knights fought the most decisive battles of the wars and the Eastland nations owe them a debt of honor. To this day, the republic still maintains the largest free-standing army in the Eastlands and honors the vow to be eternally vigilant in holding up the shield of protection for all the Eastlands.

 

The Adar are governed by a Tri-Council, one knight lord from each of the three states, and each town is in turn governed by a local knight lord. All positions are elected, and thus, the nobility have a very real motivation to govern with justice and honesty. In the republic, the knighthood shares authority with the church, and any party who has been ill-used by a member of the nobility can seek redress with the church, which maintains the Rights of Accusation. The Church of Bes-Tera also oversees all charitable works within the nation, and criminals who are convicted are sometimes given to the church for service or rehabilitation. As the place where the Goddess Bestera first appeared on Aeinia, the Adari Republic is under the blessing of her divine protection and power, and no one who seeks for good goes long without her aid or the aid of her clergy.
