manor Eiden
Many years before the Second Imperial War, numerous families of wizards broke away from the Adari Republic out of a desire to escape the nation’s stringent regulation of magic, and many thank the gods to this day that they did so. These wizard families founded the city of Manor Eiden under the wise leadership of the archmage, Magus I, and it was the army of wizards he led that eventually countered the brutal arcane might of the Jeshinese sorcerer arm of the military known as the Enforcers. However, shortly after this victory, Magus I disappeared, leaving the city he loved in the hands of his four squabbling generals who also happened to be his children. Unable to come to terms with one another and unwilling to subject the people to further bloodshed, the Children of Magus divided the land into four separate though interconnected cities and renamed the city-state “Magiquad”. The Children of Magus, all but immortal, disappeared during the recent chronomantic magical disaster known as the Flux, and in that vacuum, the city seized on the chance to break the dynasty’s hold over the government by becoming a territory of the Adari Republic. Returning to the name Manor Eiden, the City of Wizards retained the right to self-governance in exchange for adopting the code of knighthood and the election of a knight lord.
Manor Eiden is truly a wonder to behold. While each of the four quadrants has its own unique flavor, every child receive a basic education and that includes being tested for the aptitude for magic. Almost all citizen of Manor Eiden are capable of performing at least a cantrip or two to help them in their daily labors, and the city still maintains the largest population of wizards in the world. To excel in this profession, one seeks an apprenticeship with a wizard of note and trains for years until the time when their master nominates them to study at one of three prestigious colleges of magic. For the truly ambitious, graduates of the college may seek out a position in the Arcanolagus, the governing body of wizards who share power with the knight lord of the city. While politics between powerful wizards are a constant, the major focus of Manor Eiden is the acquisition of knowledge and the further of magical study. This freedom is of paramount importance to the Eidenite people, and their city is a testament to that belief. With floating islands, a river of water that flows directly from the Elementa Planes to cross-cross the city, and a flying traffic as well as fantastic creatures roaming the streets, the City of Spells is a certainly a wonder of the world.
