valloria
Valloria is a frontier kingdom within the southern edge of the Middlewood that was established by the Archmage Verald Vanguard and his family. Verald was born into the city of Thelea, which forbade magic, and he fled his homeland for Manor Eiden at a very young age. A magical prodigy, Verald was quickly embroiled in the politics of the arcane colleges where he was used as a pawn between warring wizard rivals. Barely escaping with his life, Verald began an industrious adventuring career, after which he desired nothing more than to seek solitude within his tower home in the Middlewood. That idyllic life ended when the Archmage came to the aid of a merchant caravan set up by a goblin war band that foolishly wandered too deeply into the Middlewood. Soon the archmage’s tower became a regular stop by merchants seeking to brave the dangers of the forest in hope of profit, and when the writing on the wall became clear, Verald decided to control the situation and turn it to his advantage. Seeing this as a chance to write the wrongs of his travails in manor Eiden, Verald turned his lands into a thriving woodland kingdom, inviting families and companies with the courage to live on the edge of civilizations to settle in the city of valor, Valloria.
Valloria was a benevolent dictatorship under archmage Verald Vanguard, who worked very hard to ensure his people’s happiness, prosperity, and safety. A powerful transmuter, the archmage turned his magic against criminals and those who brought discord to Valloria by turning them into orcs or stone statues in his garden around the Red Tower. All Vallorian children received an education along with the opportunity to test for magical aptitude or enter in an apprenticeship that would secure a prosperous future for the student and their family. Because of this systemic approach to education, poverty was virtually unknown in the frontier city, and master craftsmen worked very hard to help their pupils establish a decent life. Valloria became known as a kingdom that valued ability over culture or race, and therefore, it attracted a number of eccentric persons as well as uniquely gifted individuals of power. This reputation for equality even led to the establishment of a school for the rare mental magic known as psionics, which came to be known as the School of Thought. Between the archmage’s apprentices and the School of Thought, Valloria had an unusually mystical populace and military where the arcane wasn’t feared due to the archmage’s stringent laws. As Valloria was located in the very heart of the Eastlands and boasted such a tolerant community, it also became home to the United Coalition of Faith, an organization of priests of different faiths united to protect the Eastlands and its many faiths. All of this prosperity came to an end when Valloria was invaded by an army of demons and devils that sacked the city. However, many refugees escaped by means of portals in the Red Tower, as did much of the military and the secret police known as the Phoenix Society. Rumors say that the archmage himself was trapped in hell but managed to escape and is traveling the planes seeking the aid to take back his lands.
